Common mistakes committed during Umrah – Part 4
We are continuing with the mistakes that are committed by pilgrims during Umrah. These are simple things that, if done right, will make our Umrah better correct. This is the fourth of the five-part series on the mistakes committed during Umrah.
So far we have told you things about Niyyah, Ihram, the Tawaf, and Hajra-e-Aswad among other things. In this fourth part, we will be clearing some more misconceptions that people commit mistakes, during the Umrah.
Often, people embark on Umrah in groups and even if they do not, it is easy to find a group you can tag along, within Mecca. This part is fine, but after a group is formed some of these groups tend to shout dua’s in unison. Shouting dua’s in groups has no basis in Sunnah and the only thing it tends to do is disturb other pilgrims and create a lot of confusion.
Better is to make dua’s within yourself while you are performing the Umrah, whether you are part of any group or you are not. And if you are worried you will forget the dua’s, you can always make a list of the dua’s and Quranic verses that you can recite while performing the Tawaf. This way you won’t remain dependent on anyone, and supplicate without disturbing others.
There is a huge misconception about assigning specific dua’s for each round of the Tawaf. Even some published books ask pilgrims to do so, but this has no basis in Sunnah. Neither Rasulallah (PBUH) nor any of the Sahabas did this.
The only specific dua that the Rasulallah (PBUH) recited was, “rabbana aatina’ fid-dunya hasana wa-fil aakhirati hasana waqina adhaban naar,” when he reached between the Yemeni corner and the Hajra-e-Aswad during the course of a Tawaf.
So, there is no need to assign specific dua’s for your rounds of Tawaf. Instead, you can say whatever dua you want to, while this specific dua can be said between the Yemeni corner and the Hajra-e-Aswad.
These were two important misconceptions that most people face in regard to Tawaf and we hope that both the misconceptions have been cleared for good. We will soon be back with the last blog of this series where we will talk about a couple of more mistakes people tend to commit during Umrah.
